Palafrugell and its neighbouring municipalities once again dressed up in solidarity and sport with the celebration of the Oncotrail 2024, an emblematic event organised by the Fundació Oncolliga Girona, which this year has reached historic figures. With 307 teams and 2,705 participants, the race raised €393,944.11, a milestone in the fight against cancer.

The Oncotrail is not just a sporting competition, but a platform to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their families, as well as to support research into this disease. The 100 km route, which started in Plaça de Can Mario in Palafrugell, was run in teams of 8 people. In this edition, the Els Miquelets-AEP team was the fastest, completing the circuit in 9 hours and 14 minutes.

ICDQ also wanted to join this great cause. Under the number 188 with a team formed by David Galeote Godàs, Pablo Varela Torres, Manuel Nogales Altes, Toni Perona Robles, Gerard Isanta Lasierra, Anna Trullàs Capell, Josep Nadal Soy, Juan Antonio Martinez Gimenez and Esther Bonilla Ciller we have been in 109th position with 100.22 km accumulated in 14 hours and 50 minutes. We are very proud of the result and we want to thank the whole team for having participated in this solidarity movement.

The event would not have been possible without the more than 600 volunteers, the organisers and, of course, all the donors who have contributed to the Oncotrail to continue changing lives.

Solidarity in every step

Beyond the race, every kilometre run contributes to improving the daily lives of those fighting cancer. As Lluís Comet, director of the Oncotrail, points out, ‘this event is not just a race, but a movement for life and hope’. The funds raised will be used both for cancer research and for services that improve the lives of patients, from psychological support to the loan of medical equipment.
